Raw, Creepy and Haunting: Meg Myers | Musical Obsessions

Today, I'm sharing with you guys the fantastic creator that is Meg Myers. I originally found her through this fantastic trailer artist that featured one of her songs in her The Raven Boys trailer and I've never looked back since.

Her songs are raw, creepy, and haunting. It's the soundtrack of a haunted house or a murder spree, if that makes any sense, and it's one of my favorite themes in music. Yes, I'm slightly morbid.

In some of these songs, her voice grates as if she's screaming her soul out and it's glorious. But I don't mean screaming like metal music or anything... you'll just have to check some of the videos bellow to understand what I mean haha

So, I'm going to link to three of my favorite songs of hers (I love so many of her songs, it's not even funny).
Lemon Eyes
Desire
Go - couldn't find the video here so take a link and a gif ;)

Also top favorite recommendations: Heart Heart Head, Adelaide, Sorry,

So... did you like the songs? Which one is your favorite? Are you going to listen to more songs by her?

February Round Up!

General Stuff
February was kind of a busy month. On the one hand, I can barely remember what I did; on the other, I have the embedded impression of a lot. I feel like I never got any time for myself and my interests, always running from one social event to the other. It was exhausting. I'm kind of an introvert; too much social encounters makes me feel drained to my core.

As for the blog, I was greatly disappointed this month. I'm not going to lie; this blog effects my general mood. I don't care about views too much (because I've come to realize views hardly translate to discussion and what I'm looking for here is discussions), but I posted some of those posts I'm really proud of or really excited about such as my Harry Potter post or my bookish story or my Hush, Hush rant extravaganza and not many people read/commented on them.

This makes me think - are these not the type of posts that interests you guys? Should I change their format? What do you think?

MY READING MONTH
Has been pretty crappy. I was in a book slump from the middle of January to the middle of February which sucked up my reading schedule big time. I've read 7 book in February and finished three manga, all of whom will be reviewed on the blog at some point. But I felt like I read nothing at all. It was depressing! 7 books is not a bad number (though I'm used to reading 15 books a month, which hasn't happened for Jan or Feb!) but it felt like nothing at all. Gah!

AND NOW, IN CASE YOU MISSED MY AWESOME POSTS THIS MONTH (*wink wink*)

Musical Obsessions: Wolf's Rain Soundtrack

Hey guys! I'm taking a short break from the blog-related posts to do something a bit different. Lately, I finished the awesome (yet heartbreaking) 2003 anime Wolf's Rain. Aside for being a beautiful, thought-provoking anime, it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard - It's mostly in English, sang by Japanese, Canadian, Brazilian and american singers, which is by far the most diverse soundtrack I've ever heard.

And it sounds great. I simply can't stop listening to it, and I can't recommend it enough!

Here are my five favorite songs from the anime, for your enjoyment. For those who rather just melodies, don't be afraid to check them out on YT - they're often haunting and  always gorgeous.

Opening Song - Stray / Steve Conte

Ending Theme - Gravity / Maaya Sakamoto

Heaven's Not Enough / Steve Conte

Strangers / Raj Ramayya

Run, Wolf Warrior, Run / Joyce

So... did you like the songs? Which one is your favorite? Does this possibly make you want to watch the anime? :)

Karmin - Baby it's Cold Outside (Holiday Cover) | Musical Obsessions

You guys, I had to share this cover with you. If you don't know the due Karmin... you should. Their names are Nick and Amy and they started out by doing covers on YouTube. Very quickly, like in a year's time, they were offered a deal which they took.

But after an album or so, they broke up with their record because they wanted to be more honest in their music. They are now back to their old YouTube channel as independent artists and their holiday cover of Baby it's Cold Outside is playing on a loop in my room.

Seriously, they made this song so haunting and beautiful and the choice to take a song traditionally sang as a duet and make a single person singing it makes it sound like an internal fight instead of a (somewhat creepy) man trying to seduce his companion to stay longer (I mean, she literally asks "what's in this drink?" at some point. That sounds kind of dark)

It's like we're hearing this person's thoughts, how she is struggling against herself. The angel and the devil on one's shoulder, and the devil is winning against the rationality.

And the darker melody....

I can't with this cover. It's absolutely perfect. If you don't believe me, check for yourselves :)

AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THEIR AWESOME CHANNEL SO YOU COULD FALL IN LOVE WITH THEIR MUSIC AS I HAVE!
